57 Chevy Bel Air with a Corvette engine..... Or a wheelchair with engine powerful enough to get dad around on his own.....
One was a love of his past, one may just be a love of his future.... At 17 Dad bought a rusty brown 57 Chevy, painted it Dodger Blue, and with the help of friends dropped in a Corvette Engine.... Cruising the LA streets with his T-Timers car club, occasionally racing against other car enthusiasts, but mainly enjoying the ride... Although dad wasn't much of a social butterfly, he did enjoy his car and the social interaction of the club.. Karlene and I later enjoyed wearing his T-Timers jacket for dances or while performing Grease with our friends....
Dad sold the 57 just before mom and dad tied the knot, combination of impractical size and gas mileage, to be reasonable for a couple just starting out.... But dad never lost his love for the classic cars.... Especially Chevy'y and to this dad the two things Karlene and I can spot from a distance are Classic Chevy's (56,57,58's to be exact) and a Western Milling truck!!!! But I digress....
Today the need for more power went a new direction.... From the first moment they set dad up into his wheelchair he was ready to go!!!! If only the chair had the buttons his fingers were searching for connected to a power source so he could enjoy the ride on his own!! But not to be yet, this chair must be man powered.. Either by his own hand on the wheel or that of a loved one. Perhaps one day he will have one with more power... We however hope he will not need that for some time to come, that he will recover.. strong and sure enough to not need more power.....
