iHabit.......

iPad, iPod, iPhone..... Bushels of Apples....

Several days ago as dad was becoming more aware of his surroundings he was asking for his electronics.... His iPhone, his connection to the world around him.. Storing his personal information as well as his contacts to us and his work life line.... His iPad, holding pictures of his family including his precious Grandchildern that are missing him dearly, and his iPod, his escape storing dozens of books on tape that keeps his mind occupied while driving the long distance between his work home in Visalia and his family home in San Clemente...

We have all become so dependent on these devices for communication and entertainment, for work or for fun...they are part of our everyday lives... His first concern was that he had his phone...for most of us know we do feel lost without them.. He navigated it quite well, although I believe he accidentally sent off an email!!!! Next his iPod, wanting to listen to his books...my belief was to drown out the constant background noise common in a hospital setting....  Then his iPod, his fingers working the screen....not completely sure what his mind was searching for. But familiar habits are comforting nonetheless.

Tonight however the iHabit finally became more than just something to fill time, and occupy his mind. It became a chance for Karlene and dad to see each other for the first time in over a week.... Thanks to the amazing computer geeks that created FaceTime, Karlene was able to call us at the hospital.... Able to talk to dad, and see just how far he has come in just a week... To hear him say her name and that he loves her... To see him wave and smile at her from over 400 miles away...

IHabit, became ihope.....
